Faye Crance is a New York State Finger Lakes' Artist. In her work she attempts to capture a familiar moment, either past or present, in an entirely new way. Just as each person has a life story, Crance feels that animals, places and objects all have their own stories to tell. She encourages her viewers to think beyond the ‘moment’ that she has captured, and to speculate what occurred before or after. The viewer should have the freedom to extend the perimeters of her work as they imagine.
Crance’s primary work is in oils. However, after an accident that resulted in a right shoulder joint replacement, her limitations in range of motion forced her to expand her choice of mediums to include pen and ink. She has recently started to explore the exciting medium of colored pencils.
Crance was commissioned by Tioga State Bank to paint the large oil Triptych Painting of the Spencer Area that is displayed in their Spencer Branch Lobby.
Crance received her education from Ithaca College, Tompkins Cortland Community College and Famous Artist School. She has also had the privilege of studying with several area artists. She has served on the Board of Directors for Tioga County Counsel on the Arts. Crance has exhibited in International Juried Shows as well as Area and Regional Shows, winning a Purchase Award by Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. as well as several others. She has taught drawing and painting classes, and her work is represented in collections throughout the United States.
